God's Bridge
The God’s Bridge Project, UK
April’13 – April’14
A group project initiated by ARTworks in Teesdale, and mentored by renowned sculptor Tania Kovats. Ten artists (Ewan Allinson, Henna Asikainen, Charli Clark, Lesley Hicks, Hannah Leighton-Boyce, Robyn LeRoy-Evans, Steve Messam, Bryony Purvis, Gillian Tallentire, and Suzanne Williams) were asked to produce individual artistic responses to God’s Bridge, a naturally occurring geological feature of the Teesdale countryside. The resulting artworks were brought together in the cumulative show God's Bridge X, which was held at The Bowes Museum, County Durham.
God’s Bridge, with its profound relationship to time, existence and memory, compelled Robyn to exist beneath it for a while, to feel the stone on her bare skin. To accompany her unique, bodily response, Robyn also used locally sourced objects and fabrics to develop a visual narrative about God’s Bridge and the surrounding landscape.
