I will go to the places that scare me (red woman triptych)
There are places (both real and imaginary) that frighten me. I know I must force myself to find a way to exist in these places, to hold space there.
The red woman, draped and disguised, becomes a vessel for strength. She remains fighting against the winds that will surely blow. She will go to the places that scare her, and she will not be afraid.

These images were made in New Orleans East in December 2016, when I was eight months pregnant. It was a time of great anxiety - for me, and for many others. The inner fear I felt about becoming a mother seemed to mirror the tumultuous socio-political atmosphere of the country. The weight of what was unfolding could almost be felt in the air...
